Can I Wear a Tan Lace Dress to a Wedding

I know you're not supposed to wear white to a wedding ever. I know some people say don't wear black or red as well. But what about wearing a light beige/tan/nude dress? I am so confused about what is appropriate.

I'm attending a night time wedding reception in late fall. There is no ceremony as the bride and groom were married in a small family only ceremony earlier in the year. Attached are pics of a couple of dresses I love. I would wear them with red lipstick, a red clutch, and probably nude or gold CLs. Any thoughts about whether they are ok? Or should I stick to something blue, purple or green (or whichever other colors you are "allowed" to wear)?

Thanks for your help!

i think nude tones are okay as long as its not the same color as your skin & look naked from a distance. however, i wouldnt wear nude with a red clutch to a wedding. i would stick to black probably. same with the shoes. nude on nude is too much imo. the red lip however i think would be hot

What's wrong with wearing a red clutch to a wedding?? Since when are certain colors "barred" from a wedding? I can understand not wearing white but RED?

Also..this isn't a wedding ceremony, right? Since the bride already got married? Will she even be wearing WHITE?

I think the 2nd dress is absolutely gorgeous and I would totally wear it! Gold CLs would look fabulous!

^^just the red/nude combo to me is very sexy and possibly too sexy for a wedding. not that red is barred. just my opinion :shrugs:

Thanks for the input. Not sure if she's wearing her wedding dress or something similar. She wore a tea length white lace dress to the ceremony.

I love that ABS dress (the first one) it looks so much like the Valentino (if I wasn't shopping for a dress for a wedding I last week I would have thought it was a Valentino)!

Oh okay I understand. Although I don't think it's wrong to look sexy at a wedding..especially at this event, which is basically an evening party and not a ceremony at all. But yeah looking skanky probably isn't okay for either but OP's dresses look classy to me!

probably would be fine because this sounds like a fun party and not the actual wedding- if you're close to the bride i'd just ask what she's wearing- what if she ends up wearing a champagne colored or nude colored dress? you don't wanna steal her spotlight...

I recently wore nude to an afternoon wedding, and I don't see a problem with it. Like you, I wore a red clutch hehe and nude shoes. I felt "sexy," since the dress was very form fitting, but I don't think there is anything wrong with looking sexy, as long as you don't look trashy, for lack of a better word (i.e, a dress that shows too much cleavage or too much leg). There were also a lot of people wearing black, surprisingly. So I think the "rules" are changing and are becoming more flexible.

As long as your dress isn't white or cream, you should be fine. I've worn a nude beaded dress to an evening wedding with a crystal Leiber clutch & gold heels. It was a dressy event & I felt very comfortable.

I think the dresses you've chosen are lovely & not overtly sexy. I like the first one as it's fun & flirty.

I like both the dresses but my vote goes to the first dress! And think the color and mixing it with red is totally ok for a wedding, and there is nothing wrong in looking hot!

I think it's totally appropriate - as long as it's not an overly "naked" dress
